1. What attracted you to this industry?
   I was mainly inspired trying to get games to run on my old computer which back in the day only had 8MB of ram. I used to deconstruct and reconstruct the family computer trying to figure out why the computer wouldn’t run my games and slowly I started to develop interest in the industry of electronics and PCB design.
2. What school were you attending and what is your major?
   I attended Ryerson University for my Major in Electrical Engineering, then went over to Humber College.
3. How did you hear about Avnan?
   I heard about Avnan through Humber college
4. What was your experience like onboarding with Avnan?
   It was around the time of Covid, when I was onboarding with Avnan, so the process was a little different. But given the circumstances the onboarding was smooth and easy, and it was easy to transition into the position.
5. Tell us about your new role at Avnan and what was expected.
   My current role at Avnan is an Electronics Engineering Technologist. As a technologist it is expected to know how to solder and basic electronics handling and of course lab safety.
6. What do you like about working with Avnan? Tell us about your experience working at Avnan. 
   I like that everyday is a new challenge and everyday is different. There is always a new problem to solve or a new design to make. The people at Avnan make it a great place to work as well!
7. What are some of your key learnings?.
   Some key things I learned at Avnan is how the industry functions and key details about the industry that schooling does not offer.
8. What advice would you give to others who want to get a start on their career?
   Projects! Make some home-made projects! Its always fun to make and create at home and not only does it help develop your skills but you also get an idea of the development cycle.

   When did you do internship with Avnan and how long?
   I did 2 different terms of interning at Avnan, a 4-month internship from Aug 2021 to Jan 2022, then an 8 Month Internship from Sept 2022 to May 2023.

    I attended both Ryerson University and Humber College
11. How did you connect with Avnan?
    I connected with Avnan through Humber College for my fist internship term, and for my second I actually spoke directly with the project manager.
12. When did you become employed?
    I became employed with Avnan in May 2023

Jaspreet was hired by Avnan as a co-op student for two terms (Sept – Dec 2020 and May – Aug 2021). Jaspreet proved to be a great addition to our engineering team and shortly after his graduation from Sheridan College, he was hired as an Electronics Technologist at Avnan.

Questions:

1. What attracted you to this industry?
   I have always been fond of electronic gadgets and curious to know how they function, what are the things inside these products and so on. From my school days, I made up my mind to join this field so that I can learn about circuit designing, programming and a lot of other things. I used to visit Mega power stations to see big powerful Electrical machines during my early school years with my father and I believe I got some inspiration from him and decided to pursue my career in this industry.
2. What school were you attending and what is your major?
   I completed my Electronics Engineering Technology program from Sheridan College, Davis Campus, Brampton, ON.
3. How did you hear about Avnan?
   I came to know about Avnan from my college co-op job postings and it was also suggested by one of my co-op advisors.
4. What was your experience like onboarding with Avnan?
   I had a chance to meet experienced professionals and was given proper training for all the tasks during my training period. Everyone made me feel comfortable to understand things better. Overall, it was a wonderful on-boarding experience.
5. Tell us about your new role at Avnan and what was expected?
   After I completed my graduation, I started working full-time with Avnan as an Electronics Technologist. As I was already familiar with Team members, it was a smooth transition for me from being a co-op student to a full-time Engineering Team Member. I already had an overview of what things will look like with this new role with more responsibilities. It has been one year now since I started with this position and I enjoy this journey.
6. What do you like about working with Avnan? Tell us about your experience working at Avnan.
   I completed my two co-op terms with Avnan and had a chance to learn different skills. I feel lucky to be a part of this professional team where I’m learning and improving skills at the same time. Avnan helped me to start my career and I enjoy working with Engineering team to learn more about variety of products to enhance my knowledge and experience which gives me a determination to do better and better.
7. What are some of your key learnings?
   I improved my testing and troubleshooting skills and continue to enhance my knowledge on using Altium, AutoCAD and Solid works, and multiple other applications to design PCBs, Engineering drawings and other technical documentations. Apart from these technical skills, I have also gained various interpersonal skills to work efficiently in a professional manner.
8. What advice would you give to others who want to get a start on their career?
   I would like to suggest to new co-op students to prepare to learn more important things outside college/ university with a learning and growth mindset and always ask questions to clear your doubts. Co-op is a great stepping-stone to start your professional journey where you will build connections and learn valuable skills from experts

1. What attracted you to Avnan?

   I was drawn to Avnan by the opportunity to work remotely while contributing to exciting, impactful projects in People & Culture. What really stood out was the freedom to bring new ideas to the table and see them through to completion. Kristal, my manager, also played a big role in my decision—her positivity, energy, and inspiring leadership have made my experience here incredibly enjoyable and rewarding.

2. What opportunity did you identify at Avnan that you could impact?

   When I joined, I saw the chance to simplify and streamline our processes to enhance the employee experience. I knew we could leverage modern tools to improve efficiency, create smoother workflows, and build a more engaged and connected culture.

3. How did you plan and execute some of those key ideas?

   We started by identifying key pain points like manual processes and found ways to automate them. Implementing BambooHR, a comprehensive HRIS, allowed us to streamline approvals, hiring, onboarding, offboarding, and performance management. We also introduced the MS Teams soft phone system to improve communication, especially for our hybrid workforce. To build team cohesion, we planned engaging events like treetop trekking, paint cabin sessions, sushi-making, and a cruise brunch—each of which was a huge success with the team.
   BambooHR has been a game-changer for us, giving real-time visibility into employee progress, which has made feedback and tracking much more efficient. We regularly gather insights through employee surveys, focusing on metrics like engagement, well-being, and satisfaction. This feedback helps us refine processes, provide support where needed, and create actionable plans that boost both productivity and engagement.
